There are all kinds of people who get married! The experience of wedding planning as an LGBTQ+ couple is not always the same experience that a straight couple has. As a wedding planner that’s based in Chicago and plans weddings all over the country I have worked with all kinds of couples and I have heard the experiences of LGBTQ+ couples. In addition, the wedding industry is extremely binary, even today. Many publications, blogs, vendors, documents have binary language. Many vendors are not educated about gender pronouns. Marketing for weddings is also binary - there are often photos of white, straight, cis-gendered couples on social media and publications. When LGBTQ+ people and people of color don’t see themselves represented it can make wedding planning very challenging.

JP & Hannah’s Wedding at Revel Motor Row was romantic, funky and FIERCE! JP and Hannah met on the New York City Subway. Hannah gave JP her card, but he never called her! By chance they met again a year later and started to date. Talk about fate huh?!
WHAT MADE THIS WEDDING FIERCE
The Fiercest part of the wedding was when the couple reenacted how they met to the song “Call Me Maybe” in lieu of a first dance. We made sure to coordinate NYC subway sound effects like “doors closing” with DJ Toast and Jams. It got even Fiercer when their wedding party came in with GOLD LIGHT UP DANCE SHOES and performed a dance that we choreographed for them! We aren’t usually in the dance choreography business, but owner Laura is a performer and was able to put something simple and fun together for them.
